Paul was born in Islington, London on 31st Aust 1940.

He was both a very successful jockey and then racehorse trainer.

Paul apprenticed to Eddie Magner based in Doncaster from 1954 to 1955 then to Harry Wragg based in Newmarket from 1955 to 1958

Paul's first winner was on GOLOVINE at Haydock Racecourse on October 8th 1955

His first jumps winner was Gold Wire in Taunton in October 11th 1958

He achieved 392 wins over the jumps in Britain

Cheltenham Gold Cup Winner - What a Myth(1969)

Champion Chase winner - Crisp (1971)

Champion Hurdle winner - Bula (1971 and 972)

Paul's stable was based in Shalfleet, Newmarket where he trained from 1977 - 1997

His first winner was PORT JUSTICE at Leicester on March 28th 1977

Paul's total wins in Britain, as a trainer was 304
